ActionScript

ActionScript is the scripting language used to develop software and websites using the Adobe Flash Player platform. ActionScript is derived from JavaScript. It is supported by Adobe, which purchased the developer of ActionScript, Macromedia.

ActionScript started out as a means of creating two dimensional vector animations in Flash. Gradually the language added features for creating Web-based games and rich Internet applications with streaming video or audio. ActionScript 3.0 was released in 2006 with Flash Player 9, which contains two virtual machines; AVM1 for code written in previous versions of ActionScript, and AVM2 for code written in ActionScript 3.
