How Much Will My Website Cost?

When making a decision to expend valuable resources on a website, it is essential to begin with one basic premise: Web development is not a commodity but a professional service performed by highly-trained professionals with specialized skills.

While many firms or even freelancers can get the job done, getting the job done well is where our experience really counts. Having an inexperienced programmer working on your project will end up costing you in the end.

Unlike many firms, we don't solicit or accept projects in areas in which we are not familiar. We won't need to bill countless hours spent searching online trying to figure out how to do a task - when it comes to building websites that perform, we've done it, over and over and over.

Typically the scenario goes like this: One finds a programmer or team located in India, China, Pakistan, or Eastern Europe. They promise you the moon for $10 per hour or enter an unbelievably low bid for a complex site. What typically happens then is they turn a $5 an hour coder lose on your project with little supervision. He may have no experience in the task at hand and may know little about your business or other important fundamentals of life on the web and what you want to accomplish with your site.

This results in both excessive billed hours and very likely shoddy work that will eventually have to be redone, oftentimes from scratch.

In many cases, once they have your deposit, the upsell will commence. Some will try to sell you a "custom" content management system for which you're need to constantly come back to them when it crashes or if you want to add new features - code that would be freely available had you went with an open source platform.

At other times, they may take all day to complete a task that should only take 1 hour.

An experienced development team can often get a project done - and at much higher quality - in a fraction of the time. Work that is clean, standardized, and extensible. When you're ready to expand your site, you won't have to tear down and rebuild the architecture.

Green Crescent specializes in making websites. More specifically, we specialize in making websites in the Drupal platform. We feel very strongly that Drupal is the best possible starting point for the overwhelming majority of websites.

You can read more about why we choose Drupal here. In brief, we chose Drupal because it is the most flexible, extensible, scalable and complete open source solution available. Using Drupal, one can create websites that cost less, get up and running more quickly, are more secure, and that can do more things than any other solution out there. Project Manager This is the most important of all roles. A good project manager is a jack of all trades yet a master of many. The primary responsibility of a project manager is to translate the needs of the client into am optimal design architecture and do so efficiently. Areas that concern project managers run the gamut from visual design, website architecture. While a programmer will tell a client "yes we can program that" a project manager's role is to tell a client "Yes, we can program that, but you can do the same this way in half the time, at half the cost, more efficiently and without impacting your website's performance.
